The recently opened Westin in Al Habtoor City, Dubai is part of the same beautiful complex which is home to The St. Regis and W Hotel.
It’s by far the most grand Westin I’ve ever visited and the Il Capo ‘New York style Italian’ restaurant that we came to visit one evening fits in perfectly with the hotels overall decadent ambiance.
Mr.Z and I were invited for a preview of a number of items on the menu this past week and I am very excited to share it with you because it was simply delizioso

We were seated in what I would call more of a lounge area and while I was slightly skeptical of the table height for eating dinner I quickly realized it was no problem and enjoyed the change.
With a glass of white and red we settled into our cozy chairs.
The first plates brought to us were a selection of cold starters that included a seafood salad, caprese salad made with smoked mozzarella di bufala (including what had to be the worlds largest tomatoes) and a flavor packed carpaccio on toast.
This was quickly accompanied by a pesto pasta and cheese risotto.
The home made spiral pesto was delicious – a strong pesto sauce made with fresh basil and a good kick from the parmasian cheese.
While the risotto was beautifully presented in a miniature saucepan and was served perfectly al dente, I prefer risottos served with mushrooms or truffles to add flavor.
Fortunately in the next round of dishes, the lasagna made up the marks in flavor 110 times over. Delicious. Melty cheese, vegetable goodness.
I mean, just look at it …
This main was also accompanied by a beautiful zucchini pasta, tuna steaks with a delightfully tasty topping and two sausages smothered in saucy goodness (take a look – it’s basically taking over the plate!) .
This was not all though, along side these dishes came a simple but comforting classic of battered and fried chicken abed fresh tomatoes.
It was nothing short of a feast.
And of course you can’t forget a side of crispy baked baby potatoes!
Mr. Z gobbled these up (which is saying something as he normally avoids them …. weirdo).
I just wanted to take the little pot home.
As you can imagine by this point we were pretty stuffed but so satisfied with the meal that we couldn’t help but take a look at the full menu to eye up what other dishes we should try upon our return (pizza anyone?).
Though very full this amazing thing happened that when the dessert was brought out I magically had more room in my stomach.
Totally worth it. The three desserts were a small chocolate tart, a square of tiramisu and the sweetest dish of fruits with sorbet I ever did eat.
That hit the spot and sealed the deal of our return (I hope in the very near future).
A great place for couples or a group of friends I strongly suggest that if you are after New York inspired Italian at a reasonable price point give Il Capo in The Westin a try.
