The thing with Dubai Mall is all that walking and shopping can leave a person rather hungry.
Looking for something different to try among the malls endless options we decided on LèTen.
The restaurant does a fair job of creating its own relaxed atmosphere, contrasting the hustle and bustle of the mall. During the cooler months the restaurant even offers outdoor seatings which looks out over Souk Al Bahar.
Greeted by friendly staff we took a seat at the corner table inside the main dining area (as it’s still ridiculously hot here in Dubai so the outdoor seating was not an option).
I was happy to see that the LèTen menu is full of choices. Focusing on Asian, Chinese and Singaporean dishes it’s a smorgasbord of beef, chicken, seafoods and stir fries all dished up in a range of flavors.
We started with a mix of mocktails (Peach Asian Lemongrass Iced Tea & Raspberry Jasmine Iced Tea) before setting into our appetisers.
-Golden Vegetable Money Bag
-Poach Prawn Wanton with Szechuan Chilli Oil
-Pan Seared Dumplings
All three starters I would recommend.
The money bags are crispy little wantons filled with mixed vegetables and served with a tangy sweet sauce. A guaranteed winner if you aren’t sure what to order.
The same can be said for the dumplings which I would consider a staple order at such restaurants.
The poached prawn wantons with the szechuan chilli oil I found to be a nice new twist on the wanton. This dish is slightly spicy thanks to the chilli oil but I think it added a nice twist.
Crispy Duck Roll
Baked Honey Cod Fish
Chap Chye (mix of stir fried vegetables)
Devil’s Fried Rice
Created for you at your table the crispy duck roll definitely scores points on its presentation.
While all of the mains were enjoyable the curry mayo prawn was my favorite. Simply delicious. Battered, fried and covered in a sweet and tangy sauce it’s an indulgent dish thats hard not to like. A must try if you visit LèTen.
The devil’s rice is also a safe and tasty choice. Packed with flavor it’s a great stir fried rice to accompany the rest of your dishes. For us, it paired very nicely with the sweetness of Mongolian beef which made for a very filling and satisfying combo.
I will mention that we also gave the chilli crab tofu a try but it was a total miss. In taste and presentation. The tofu was soggy and somewhat cold and while the crab topping was spicy it didn’t seem to have any true flavor. Again everything else was very enjoyable but maybe stay away from the tofu.
Definitely not what you would expect from a Pan-Asian restaurant but the fondant satisfied my sweet tooth all the same with it’s warm chocolate center topped with vanilla ice cream.
Overall LèTen is a good choice if you happen to find yourself in Dubai Mall and in need of settling a Chinese/Asian food craving. The menu is quite large so there is something for everyone (again make sure you try the curry mayo prawns -yum!)
