My beauty travel essentials do change slightly depending on where I am traveling and what look I’m going for while I’m here. This time it was a short and sweet holiday to Malta. White sand, blue sky’s, cute winding streets, sail boats and outdoor restaurants on the marina are the inspiration here.
Before any makeup I make sure I always have an oil free high SPF coverage sunscreen specifically for the face. After giving this a few good minutes to set into my skin I will top it with a gel foundation face primer to make sure my makeup stays put under the hot sun.
For foundation itself I have two on hand. Both providing full coverage which I love – even on holiday (personal preference). The cult favorite Revlon Colorstay is for the day which I layer depending on how much coverage I would like. The other is the Rimmel Stay Matte which I believe is one of the most amazing full coverage moouse like products that leaves a flawless face perfect for night walks and romantic dinners filled with photo opportunites.
Shadows and Blushes :
Instead of packing an assortment of separate shadows, blushes and powders I grabbed my new Dior travel pallet (and my favorite two eyeshadow brushes). The pallet offers different natural shadows for day and darker tones for night as well as a few lip glosses and light pink blush that translates perfectly into day and night. The pallet also offers a neutral toned face powder for setting your foundation. Basically a perfect all in one cosmetic travel must have.
Of course mascara !
I have two on hand for this trip. The Sephora brand is waterproof (on the left) and adds some serious volume to my lashes. The Dior Show (on the right) is more evening or when I know I wont be swimming as I dont want to wear waterproof for the whole trip (while it does look great it is harder on the lashes).
I also came ready with two twistable eyeliners. Better than pencil and having to worry about sharpening. A waterproof brown for the day that holds up well during a swim. The other is a simply black to make the look a bit bolder for evenings.
I brought along two lip colors with me and one trusty summer pink lip liner. The day color I’v been using (on the right) is the Maybelline, Color Sensational in Sweet Pink paired with the lipliner by Essence in Sweetheart. For the evenings I’v been reaching for the berry colored Dior Addict (on the left) in the shade 680 Millie. It’s super smooth and for a deeper color very sheer which helps to keep your holiday look fresh and natural.
Lip balm is also an absolute must (forgot to add it in the photo sorry!) I’v been using the clear Baby Lips during this holiday and loving it.
Setting Spray :
Even if you aren’t wearing a full face on your holiday a setting spray is always a good idea when traveling – if you’re running about and enjoy your trip the last thing you want to think about is touching up your look. Setting spray will keep your face fresh and smudge free. I always travel with this.
And yes that is the original packaging of the Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray (it’s not cheap but as you can see this stuff lasts forever!) I completely recommend it as a beauty investment.
Now most of the time your hair will be down and by the end of the day will most likely be wind blown and salty – as it should be on holiday – but a little light hair spray will do you good especially if you’re rushing off from the beach to dinner. The L’oreal never leaves a stiff feeling on the hair and the Frizz Ease is pretty heavy duty but really combats any humid climate keeping ‘the poof’ at bay.
I also brought along these two travel sized shampoo and conditioner by Soap and Glory that I had heard so much about. I must say I am really enjoying them and they really do smell amazing – almost tropical. They aren’t a must as all hotels offer their own shampoos and conditioners however if you do have more sensitive hair I would suggest brining your own to insure that you have good quality hair products on hand.
It is important to remember that your hair will typically take a bit of a beating on holiday – hot direct sun, salt water, pool water – it’s a lot! So make sure you rewarded your hair with good shower products and a nice deep repair treatment when you get home.
There you have it! My travel beauty must haves. What are your holiday must haves ?
