These little sugar cookie and sweet strawberry jam creations are sure to win anyones heart.
As sugar coated as that sounds you know it’s true! Just look at them – like you picked them up straight out of a bakery!
The best part is – they are actually incredibly easy to make and a guaranteed crowd pleaser.
You’ll need the following
- 5 cups of flour
- 1 1/2 cups room temperature butter
- 2 cups white sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking poser
- 1 teaspoon salt
- x2 heart shaped cookie cutters (or 1 heart shaped cookie cutter and 1 toothpick – I did it this way)
- Powdered sugar (to dust on top)
- Strawberry Jam (though any jam of your preference will do)
Place the butter and sugar into your mixer.
– Do you make sure your butter is at room temperature – it really makes all the difference in how workable your dough will be.
Mix until you are left with this semi fluffy mixture.
Next add in the four eggs and vanilla followed by the salt, baking powder, and flour.
Mix in the flour a cup at time.
Let your mixer work your ingredients together until your dough forms.
Your dough is ready!
Well sorta – now cover that baby up and place it in the fridge for a minimum of an hour or even overnight if you have the time (and patiences).
**** fast forward 3 hours – or however long it is you waited ****
Your dough should now be perfectly firm and ready for rolling.
Take a handful of flour and spread it on your rolling area.
Depending on how large your rolling area is you should be able to roll out about half of the dough at a time.
Once your dough is about 1/2 an inch thick take your heart shaped cookie cutter and press it firmly into the dough (should be on the medium to large size).
Peel away the excess dough and do it all over again.
Keep cutting out all of your adorable hearts until you are left with an even number of hearts.
If you have a smaller sized heart shaped cookie cutter.
Now would be the time to use it.
But if you don’t hope is not lost –
Grab a toothpick and start drawing out a smaller heart inside half of the ones we already cut.
Pop your sweet little hearts onto a sheet of baking paper and place into your preheated oven.
Once all of your cookies are backed stack them in seperate stacks of top cookies and bottom cookies.
Taking one of the bottom cookies cover it in as much jam as you see fit.
Dolip the jam in the middle and spread it over the whole of the cookie.
Toss the top cookie in powdered sugar before placing it carefully on top of your jam covered bottom cookie.
And there you have it.
You gotta share the love.
Happy Valentines Day everyone : )
