For all of its glamour the Dubai Poppy Ball brings the somber memory of World War I and II back to life for a night of remembrance.
The poppy symbolises the British soldiers who fought and died for the freedom of their country and Europe.
Mr. Z and I were fortunate enough to be invited to this memorable evening by friend and ex secret service member to Her Majesties forces.
At the entrance poppies where available in exchange for a donation which supports all current and former British military personnel.
Entering the large and very grand ballroom with our little red poppies we took or seats and settled in for the speeches, toasts, songs and memories.
When the speeches ended and good spirits returned we relaxed with our group of friends to enjoy the rest of the evening.
Like most things British the evening which began heavy hearted ended light and carefree as guests took to the dance floor and the celebration of living for the moment began.
It is the Brits after all who are notorious for throwing the celebrations here in Dubai.
With the evening coming to an end and feeling recharged with ‘national’ pride as much as I can say as an American – though paying respects to allies is greatly important as well I believe – we headed home to take on the new week ahead.
