Today not only does Pine State still have its farmers market stand but it also boasts two tiny, but booming, breakfast locations here in Portland. You can check them out here.
The parents, Mr.Z and I decided to head down to their SE Division location for breakfast. We arrived a bit late however (10AM) and the long line around the corner had already begun. We stuck it out though, like all good Portlanders do.
After ordering at the front counter we waited for seats to open up. Luckily not long after we were able to grab four seats up on ‘the bar’, – or, if you will, front row seats into the open kitchen where the Pine State team was working away.
First order up, moms simple biscuit with local honey, jam and butter.
I decided to try the BBQ pulled pork with fresh slaw. Maybe it doesn’t look like much but trust me – this little biscuit packed some flavor but also somehow seemed to remain light and didn’t leave you feeling weighed down after.
And for the boys this monster.
The Reggie Deluxe (biscuit / fried chicken / bacon / cheese / gravy / egg )
We happily tucked into our breakfast while watching the team flour and bake fresh biscuits for the next hungry customers.
The team bakes biscuits in their open kitchen throughout the opening hours.
So you know what your eating is freshly baked.
A breakfast masterpiece.
Look at that Reggie.
Messy and good.
We left Pine State fully happy and personally … thinking about how I could do it all over again tomorrow. Unfortunately time wouldn’t allow such a wonderful idea but I know without a doubt I will return on my next trip back to Portland.
